There is an appealing story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a prime area, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; however, investment sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 1700, and although visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is real of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel building that highlights a number of comforts on top of the gambling den, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 table games.
