There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino gambling is prohibited. Eight casinos are established in a generally small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent destination, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; still, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international vacation and hotel building that features numerous conveniences accompanying the casino, which has 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight tables.
