There is an appealing background to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall betting is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are situated in a relatively small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent spot, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, financing sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are allegedly required to pass, there are means around this, as is true of most borders.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel building that features a number of amenities aside from the casino, which has 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and 88 gaming tables.
